Following Al Nassr’s loss on Friday, Cristiano Ronaldo was made fun of by Al Hilal supporters who were screaming Lionel Messi’s name.
After defeating championship rivals Al Nassr 3-0, Al Hilal surged seven points ahead at the top of the Saudi Pro League standings.
The win was ensured by goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
At the end of the match, the home crowd quickly started chanting about Ronaldo’s longtime adversary Lionel Messi, which made the five-time Ballon d’Or winner laugh.
Actually, it wasn’t the 38-year-old’s greatest day wearing a shirt from Al Nassr. With a powerful volley into the top of the goal in the second half, it seemed as if he had tied the score, but it was disallowed for the smallest of offsides.
Later, the famous Portuguese player claimed he had been fouled in the build-up to Mitrovic’s first goal, but the referee showed little interest in hearing about it.
In the first half, Ronaldo had to cope with Al Hilal defender Ali Al-Bulayhi squaring up to him. In response, he calmly gestured that he could not hear Al-Bulayhi’s taunting by placing his palm to his ear.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United player led the Saudi Pro League scoring statistics with 15 goals in Al Nassr’s previous 14 league games.
Speaking after the match, Al Nassr coach Luis Castro said of his captain: “Cristiano is an example for everyone, an example that Al Nassr are lucky to have. He is an example of rigor, ambition and discipline.’
“Lots of people want to be like Cristiano Ronaldo but few want to work like Cristiano Ronaldo. If you want something you have to give everything to get it.”
