The Boston Celtics had one place on their roster going into the 2023–24 season. They could certainly wait until the middle of the season to fill it, but they could also shuffle some players about to strengthen their lineup. Delon Wright of the Washington Wizards is one such choice.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report outlined his reasoning for thinking Wright would improve the depth of the Celtics.
“He is most helpful on defense, where he offers good length at the lead guard spot (6’5”) and the instincts to make the most of his physical gifts. His offensive ceiling is capped by a shaky outside shot (career 35.3 percent on low volume), but he can make things happen in the open court and create for others at any time.”
“He’s currently sidelined by an MCL sprain, but assuming he can put this issue behind him, he’s someone the Celtics could view as a plug-and-play option. He also shouldn’t cost a ton in a trade, as he’s a 31-year-old non-star on an expiring contract,” Buckley wrote in a November 21 story.
Wright is a journeyman in the NBA, having spent nine seasons on seven different clubs. But compared to some of the other guys the Celtics have on their bench, he has more experience. They would need to make some moves in order to get him without having to alter their rotation since he is guaranteed over $8.2 million this season.
Given that the Wizards are one of the poorest teams in the league, acquiring him may not cost much either.
Jayson Tatum Praises Dalano Banton
On November 26, after the Celtics’ victory against the Hawks, Jayson Tatum gave Dalano Banton credit for his performance playing with the starting lineup. He also complimented Banton for being prepared for the moment the Celtics called his name.
Celtics Assign Jordan Walsh to Maine
The Boston Celtics announced on November 27 on their X account that they have reassigned rookie Jordan Walsh to the Maine Celtics, their G-League club. Walsh’s assignment may be a clue that Jrue Holiday will soon rejoin the Celtics.
