In early July, The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Eric Nehm and Joe Vardon reported that Antetokounmpo had surgery on his left knee to “clean up loose cartilage.” He was named to Greece’s 22-player roster for the 2023 FIBA World Cup later that month, giving Greek fans hope that he would compete.

Brian Windhorst, who is reporting of the tournament for ESPN, believes it is only a matter of time before Antetokounmpo is removed.
