Al-Awwal Park hosted Ronaldo and Al Nassr’s AFC Champions League match versus Iranian team Persepolis. Ronaldo collapsed in the penalty area in the 2nd minute after the Persepolis defense tackled the ball during an Al Nassr attempt.
Everyone assumed Ronaldo was fouled since it happened so fast. Chinese referee Mа Ning agreed and promptly pointed to the 11m mark to give Al Nassr a penalty.
Ronaldo continuously gestured that he was not fouled and approached the referee to explain that it was not a penalty. Ronaldo has never shown this wonderful gesture on the football pitch, despite scoring many spectacular goals.
The referee blew the penalty for Al Nassr despite Ronaldo’s protests, and VAR had to intervene to cancel it.
After Ali Lajami was sent off in the 17th minute, Al Nassr was reduced to 10 players and the match went without a goal till the end. Despite not winning, Al-Nassr leads Group E with 13 points after 5 matches and qualified for the AFC Champions League next stage.
