‘Please tell me this is a joke’ – Man Utd wants to beat Chelsea in Timo Werner transfer that stunned fans

In Germany, there have been shocking claims that Manchester United have made inquiries regarding the possibility of signing Timo Werner, a former forward for Chelsea.

In light of the fact that Rasmus Hojlund, who was acquired for £72 million during the summer, has not yet scored a goal in the Premier League, Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen his strike force.

Werner, who plays for RB Leipzig, is reportedly on the target list of the Old Trafford manager, as reported by Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany.

The striker’s availability has reportedly been inquired about by United, but formal negotiations have not yet taken place. Leipzig has not yet responded to the inquiry.

Over the course of his two years in West London, Werner struggled to find success after signing with Chelsea in 2020 for a fee of £53 million.

Despite the fact that he only scored 23 goals in 89 matches, he was instrumental in the Blues’ victory in the Champions League in 2021.

A total of 16 goals were scored by Werner in his 40 outings until he was sold back to Leipzig in the summer of 2022 for a price of £23.5 million.

The attacker, who is capable of playing in the middle of the field or out wide, has only scored twice so far this season, despite playing in 13 matches across all competitions.

There are rumors that the 27-year-old player is once again feeling uneasy in the Bundesliga, which has led to speculation about his possible return to the Premier League.

It is believed that Werner is prepared to continue playing for the remainder of the season; however, West Ham and Fulham have also been mentioned as potential destinations for Werner.

It has been reported that Real Madrid is also keeping an eye on Werner, but United is the most recent major club to express interest in him, much to the surprise of the fans.

One Red Devils fan expressed their dissatisfaction by writing, “I’m not a fan of this.”

Someone else chimed in, saying, “Tell me that’s a joke.”

However, because United has been having a difficult time scoring goals this season, there were those people who were willing to give Werner a chance.

One of them argued, “I’d take him all day over.”

A second person concurred, saying, “I’d gladly take this.”

United is in severe need of goals, since they have only scored 16 goals in their first 13 Premier League matches thus far.

In spite of the fact that he has scored five goals in the Champions League, Hojlund has not scored any goals in the domestic competition. Instead, Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes are United’s leading league scorers, each with only three goals.

There is only one other player that has more than one, and that is Marcus Rashford.

At the same time as the incoming chief, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is deciding whether or not to fire long-serving attacker Anthony Martial, the axe is being turned.
