LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers acknowledged his mother’s assistance in the creation of the LeBron James Home Court Museum.
On Saturday, a museum honoring NBA icon and current Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James opened in his birthplace of Akron, Ohio.
The Lakers forward’s white suit from the 2003 NBA Draft is on display at the LeBron James Home Court Museum. In Home Court, fans will also discover lots of mementos from his time at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.
According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, LeBron spoke today about the role his mother had in bringing the museum to life:
Said LeBron, “I used to get on my mom about saving everything … and she kind of threw it back in my face (with the museum exhibits).”
All earnings from the museum’s ticket sales will be reinvested in the community to benefit students at James’ I Promise School in Akron.
“This is still so crazy to me that this is happening,” the Lakers star posted on social media recently. “I can’t wait for my fans all over the world to get a peek behind the curtain to see what we’ve built and where it all began. Ain’t nobody better mess up my room either!! Only in Akron!”
The museum tour will take James’ followers on a trip through his life and basketball career, including highlights from his days at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and his debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003. Though it will concentrate on his early life and career rather than his time with the Lakers, several trophies and equipment, as well as the actual rim and backboard from his high school gym, will be on exhibit.
