Speaking with Declan Rice, Kai Havertz revealed how his decision to move from Chelsea to Arsenal was influenced by their chats.
After a dismal season in which they finished in ninth place, Havertz left the Blues after three years in the summer in a £65 million deal.
Havertz signed for Arsenal in the summer from Chelsea for £65m
The Germany international was acquired by Arsenal for £65 million in an unexpected trade between the two London rivals.
However, the 24-year-old has disclosed how Rice—who signed with the Gunners subsequent to Havertz’s switch—assisted him in making the decision to live in north London.
He told Arsenal’s official website, “I spoke a lot with Declan Rice as well, who I know through Mason Mount, before I joined.”
“Because there are so many young players, it was quite easy for me to break into the team.
I’ve had a lot of experience playing against them, so I know them off the field, and I’ve had no trouble making friends here. Hopefully, things will stay this way.
Havertz has made just 19 appearances for Arsenal and has only scored one goal, which came from a penalty kick. He has struggled to establish himself at the club.
Despite this, Mikel Arteta has shown a great deal of faith in the former Bayer Leverkusen player by using him in midfield, on the wing, and up attack.
The team has echoed that support, and Havertz is eager to give it back.
Rice helped Havertz pick signing for Arsenal
Rice was also a mega-money signing at Arsenal this summer, joining from West Ham for £105m
“From outside, Arsenal always looked like a family,” he added.
“That’s the feeling I got when playing. And when I joined, that was exactly what it was like, and the staff are really nice too – and that makes life easier for a new player.
“From the first minute that I spoke to Mikel about joining Arsenal, I had this feeling that he respects all of us very much, so that was also a big part of me joining the club.
“I just felt the togetherness of the club from the players and especially within the fans and the whole club.
“At the training ground it’s like a big family – and this is a big factor to achieve great things.”
Arsenal are back in action this weekend when they face Brentford in Saturday’s late kick-off.
Havertz is likely to start after an interesting international break where he ended up playing as a left-back for Germany.
Despite scoring in a 3-2 loss against Turkey, one German legend was not happy to see Julian Nagelsmann try out the experiment.
