Cristiano Ronaldo continues to create headlines in Saudi Arabia after scoring a fantastic lobbed attempt from over 30 yards out in Al-Nassr’s 3-0 triumph.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s stunning lobbed strike for Al-Nassr has already been dubbed the ‘goal of the season’ by fans.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was on target once again for the Saudi Pro League team, scoring a brace as they strolled to a 3-0 home victory over Al-Akhdoud. Ronaldo’s return from international service with Portugal was successful, as he now has 15 league goals this season.
Fans had to wait until the 77th minute to witness the 38-year-old score, and he did so in style, retaining the ball before taking a touch and converting from a tight angle to make it 2-0 following Sami Al Naji’s first-half opening.
In typical Ronaldo form, he scored his second goal of the game after Al-Akhdoud goalkeeper Paulo Vitor put himself in no-man’s land by making a save in his own half. The ball rebounded to Ronaldo, who controlled it with his chest and lobbed the keeper from about 30 yards out, the ball flying ridiculously high in the air.
The Manchester United great sprinted off celebrating the hit with his team-mates, delighted with his performance after the ball almost traveled to the moon and back. It concluded an outstanding night for Ronaldo, who has now scored 24 goals in all competitions for Al-Nassr.
Fans on social media praised the incredible shot, with one X user writing: “Goal of the season for sure,” while another was thrilled with Ronaldo’s accomplishments despite his age, writing: “This guy is getting better and better each day bro.”
A third even went so far as to add, “Give this man a Ballon d’Or,” since Ronaldo’s team is currently just one point behind league champions Al-Hilal, who have a game in hand. His 15 league goals are five more than the league’s second top scorer, former Fulham striker Aleksander Mitrovic, who plays for the league leaders.
Ronaldo is also one of eight Saudi League players this season to have scored a hat-trick, including ex-Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema and Liverpool great Roberto Firmino.
