Less than two minutes remained in the Golden State Warriors vs. Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Tournament game at the Chase Center before a dramatic brawl broke out. For their part, the Warriors lost Jaden McDaniels, while Draymond Green and Klay Thompson were ejected. It was deemed “ridiculous” by Warriors coach Steve Kerr to eject Thompson.
After a wild brawl, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr blasted the decision to dismiss Klay Thompson from the team during their 101-104 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He also questioned Draymond Green’s ejection from the game.
Less than two minutes remained in the In-Season Tournament game when Jaden McDaniels and Thompson got into a physical altercation. They both grabbed hold of one other and wouldn’t let go until Green stepped in and took Wolves star Rudy Gobert away in a headlock.
Following a review, it was determined that Green had committed a Flagrant 2 foul and that McDaniels and Thompson had each incurred two technical fouls.
The Warriors were severely harmed by the loss of important players Thompson and Green, who were also without Steph Curry due to an injury. Even after McDaniels was removed, the Timberwolves were simply too formidable for their rivals.
“There is no way Klay should have been thrown out of the game,” Kerr stated.
“He’s running up the floor and the guy grabs his jersey and is pulling on him, so Klay pulls back… that was ridiculous.”
Regarding Green’s termination, Kerr continued, “We were informed by guys on the bench that Rudy had Klay, which is why Draymond attacked Rudy. All I can say is that the game’s strange beginning a minute and a half in was unexpected.”
McDaniels reflected on the event by saying, “[Thompson] kind of grabbed my collar and I was just trying to crash for a rebound.” All I was doing was defending myself and attempting to push him away.”The remainder is how it is. I was aware earlier that there was some back-and-forth chitchat. I didn’t give it much thought. All I could do was laugh. I suppose he gave it more thought.”
Gobert stated that his involvement was intended to “de-escalate the situation.”
My initial reaction was simply, ‘I’m not going to fight.'” To support my team, I have to be in this game,” Gobert remarked.
“I just waited till the situation was done and indicated to the referee that I had my hands up. Not a bit more than that. The choke wasn’t strong enough to send me to sleep.”
With two wins, Timberwolves now lead West Group C, while Warriors are in third place after one victory and one loss.
