Barcelona facing Manchester City roadblock in pursuit of 19-year-old Brazilian winger

Since taking over the reins at Barcelona as sporting director, Deco has kept an observant eye on young Brazilian talents across the globe.

While Barcelona’s wings have been clipped in the transfer market in light of their frail financial state, Deco continues to scout young talents with the stylistic requirements needed to don the Blaugrana jersey.

Now, as per SPORT, Deco has shown great fondness for Brazilian winger Savinho. The player is held in high regard but will be difficult to acquire with the club facing roadblocks in his pursuit.

Savinho is highly rated at Barcelona

Barça’s lack of options on the left wing has been well-documented this season. Having parted ways with Ez Abde and sending Ansu Fati on loan last summer, there is a shortage of options on the left flank, with Joao Felix the only player available.

As such, Savinho has piqued Deco’s interest. The Barça sporting director has a great deal of familiarity with the Brazilian player, who debuted for Atletico Mineiro in the Brasileirao 2020 under Jorge Sampaoli at the age of 16.

Now plying his trade for Girona, the Brazilian has helped his side lead the La Liga table with nine goals and assists already this season.

An unlikely signing

Despite the interest, the report argues that Savinho’s signing does not appear entirely realistic.

The Brazilian is on loan from Troyes to Girona. The French and Catalan teams are part of the City Football Group, which also owns Manchester City.

And, as per the report, the reigning champions of England and Spain will not let go of a player who is not just flourishing at Girona; but also showing tremendous potential for the future.

Right now, the plan is for him to stay with Girona for another season, especially if they achieve European football, which at this rate, seems unavoidable.

If he keeps improving and performing at this level, he may eventually move to Manchester City, lessening Barcelona’s chances of acquiring him down the line.
