Wednesday, November 23 – P The Boston Celtics defeated the visiting Milwaukee Bucks 119-116 on Wednesday, with a game-high 26 points from Jaylen Brown and eight assists.
Ten of Brown’s sixteen field goal attempts were successful, including three of five efforts from beyond the three-point line. In the victory, Boston, which was in the lead the whole game, converted 17 of 42 three-point tries (40.5 percent). A total of seven Celtics made two or more 3-pointers.
Jayson Tatum dunk gave Boston a 114-105 lead with 1:30 to play, but Milwaukee closed the gap to three points with 44 seconds left on a pair of 3-pointers from Khris Middleton and Damian Lillard.
With 11.6 seconds to go, Tatum extended Boston’s lead to 117-111 on the strength of three free throws; the Hornets held that lead until the final buzzer, when Malik Beasley drained a 3-pointer.
In the end, Tatum had 23 points, 11 boards, and 4 assists. The Celtics had multiple players in double figures, including Kristaps Porzingis (21 points), Derrick White (13 points), Al Horford (11 points), Sam Hauser (10 points), and Payton Pritchard (10 points). Three 3-pointers were also made by White. Final scorers included Tatum (2), Porzingis (3), Hauser (4), Horford (2), and Pritchard (2).
With 28 points, Brook Lopez of Milwaukee was the top scorer. With five rebounds and five assists, Lillard poured in 27 points.
The Bucks’ five-game winning streak came to an end, as Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and two steals. In a stretch of eight games, Boston has won seven times.
At the end of the first quarter, the Celtics had scored the first ten points of the game and were up 29-17. During that time, the Bucks made 7 of 26 shots for 26.9% of the field.With a lead of 67-53 at halftime, Boston extended its lead to 21 points in the second quarter. At halftime, the Celtics shot 58.1 percent from the field and 12 for 23 from beyond the arc, for a percentage of 52.2%.
Midway through the third quarter, the Bucks were within 67-59 thanks to a shot by Middleton, but they were unable to reduce the gap in the fourth. Going into the fourth quarter, Boston held a lead of 94–79.
Boston now has a perfect 6-0 record at home thanks to the win.
