Heat defeat Cavs behind 28 points from Lowry, who makes seven threes

The Miami Heat rolled past the sluggish Cavaliers 129-96 on Wednesday, thanks in large part to Kyle Lowry’s season-high 28 points and seven 3-pointers. Cleveland was playing the second night of a back-to-back.

Among his nine attempts from beyond the arc, Lowry connected on five of them. The Heat won their eighth game in a row despite playing without injured All-Star center Bam Adebayo. They jumped out to a 19-point lead in the first half and never looked back.

The majority of Miami’s action has taken place away from home, as the Heat have played a record-breаking 12 of their first 17 games away from South Florida.

Jaime Jaquez Jr., a rookie, scored 22 points, his career high.

The Cavs’ winning streak came to an end at four games. After Tuesday night’s overtime victory at Philadelphia, which kept their hopes alive for an in-season wild card spot in the NBA’s tournament, they were understandably sluggish.

Cleveland, which has been dealing with a number of ailments, was led by Darius Garland’s 14 points and Evan Mobley’s 13 points. Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff benched his starting lineup after their deficit widened to 22 points entering the fourth quarter.

In a similar vein, Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat used his bench players to seal the deal for Miami’s biggest victory of the season.

Cavaliers freshman Craig Porter Jr. started the game and scored 16 points, which was the team’s best.

Their top players were out with injuries for both squads.

After aggravating an existing bruιse on his left hip from a fall in a previous game, Adebayo had to sit out. With 22.8 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game, Adebayo is the Heat’s go-to scorer and defensive anchor.

The Cavaliers were once again without Donovan Mitchell, who has missed the majority of the season owing to ιnjury. The squad is taking extra precautions around Mitchell, who is averaging 29.2 points per game and has missed four games due to a hamstring issue.

Following the opening tip, Lowry immediately set the tone by leading the Heat to a 19-7 advantage with four 3-pointers in the first 4 minutes and 49 seconds.

The Cavaliers rallied and cut the lead in half, but Lowry extended it to 27-20 with his sixth consecutive 3-pointer. The point guard for Miami missed his first long-range shot at 32 feet, which was a direct Һit from Heat guard Chris Bosh.

Despite Cleveland’s best efforts, the Heat extended their advantage to 101–79 in the third quarter thanks to five additional 3-pointers (two of which came from Lowry).

Miami backup guard Dru Smith appeared to hurt his lower leg in the second quarter and had to be helped off the field.

Kevin Love, a forward for the Heat, had personal reasons for not making the trip. His return to Cleveland following his release last season would have coincided with this game. During his nine years with the Cavaliers, Love was an integral part of the squad that won the NBA championship in 2016.
