LeBron James, moments after achieving his 39,000th point in the Lakers’ decisive victory on Tuesday night, voiced his surprise upon realizing that he is older than Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy.
Asked if it felt ‘weird’ to be older than the 35-year-old head coach, the 39-year-old James said at first: ‘I’m older than who?’
‘The Utah head coach,’ the Spectrum SportsNet reporter replied.
Stunned by the revelation, James took a moment to gather his thoughts before offering his own response.
‘Wow…pffff…oh my goodness,’ he said before rubbing his head with his left hand. ‘It don’t even matter.
Utah Jazz head coach, Will Hardy, is four years younger than L.A. Lakers star LeBron James, 39
‘That’s a good one. You got me [on that one], that’s crazy.’
‘I usually can’t get you like that,’ the reporter then joked.
In utter disbelief, James reiterated the “crazy” realization that he is, in fact, older than someone leading an NBA team, followed by bursts of laughter. The all-time leading scorer in the NBA showcased his prowess with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting during the Lakers’ commanding 131-99 victory over the Jazz on Tuesday night. Despite nearly securing a double-double in just 24 minutes of play, he fell just one assist short of achieving this feat.
In addition to his scoring contributions, James secured seven rebounds against Utah. The Lakers are strategically managing the playing time of their No. 23, aiming to preserve his minutes for the postseason, should they qualify. James has been averaging 33.6 minutes for L.A. this year, just 4.4 minutes shy of his career average of 38.0.
Remarkably, he shows no signs of slowing down, maintaining an impressive average of 25.7 points per game this season, only 1.5 points below his 20-year career average. The Lakers’ upcoming schedule includes a highly anticipated home game against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, followed by a matchup with LeBron’s former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, on Saturday.
