Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant achieved a historic milestone by surpassing NBA legend Elvin Hayes for the 11th position on the NBA’s all-time scoring list during the first quarter of their game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Despite the Suns facing challenges in realizing their full potential with the Big 3 of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal not consistently playing together due to injuries, Durant’s individual performance has been remarkable. In the Tuesday game against the Blazers, Durant moved past Elvin Hayes to claim the 11th spot on the all-time scoring list.
Heading into the matchup, Durant was a mere 13 points behind Hayes. By the time of publication, Durant had scored 14 points, bringing his total career points to 27,314, surpassing Hayes’ 27,313. The next player ahead of Durant on the scoring list is the late Moses Malone, who concluded his career with 27,409 career points. Durant is on track to potentially surpass Malone within the next month.
Durant has been the most durable among the Suns’ Big 3 this season, playing in all 14 games. Leading up to the Blazers game, he boasted impressive averages of 31.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.2 blocked shots. His shooting efficiency has been stellar, with splits of 52.8 percent from the field, 49.2 percent from beyond the three-point line, and 87.3 percent from the free-throw line. Notably, Durant’s current points per game rank second in his career, closely trailing the 32.0 he averaged during the 2013-14 season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
