On Sunday night, Barcelona was given a significant setback when Gavi, a staple in the midfield position, suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee while playing for Spain.
Over the course of the past two years, the 19-year-old has been a consistent member of Xavi’s starting eleven, and the loss of his presence for an extended period of time is sure to be detrimental to Barcelona.
As a result, the Catalans are currently investigating the prospect of acquiring a player to take Gavi’s place during the transfer window that occurs in January.
The goal, however, is not to recruit someone simply for the purpose of signing them; rather, it is to bring in a player who is capable of offering quality and who is not currently playing consistently at their current club. This is done in order to encourage them to work toward leaving their current club.
In light of this, Mundo Deportivo has reported that the team that is currently defending their title as champions of La Liga has five intriguing options available to them during the January transfer window.
Giovani Lo Celso (Tottenham)
Giovani Lo Celso, a player who Barcelona had been associated with during the summer transfer window but did not sign, is once again on the radar at the Catalan club. The Catalan club has said that they are considering signing him.
The 27-year-old player is not a routine member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad, since he has only participated in three Premier League matches so far this season, despite the fact that he was sidelined for four matches due to injury. In addition to being a player that Xavi admires, he is also someone who would fulfill the needs of the club.
Fabian Ruiz (PSG)
Another player who has been associated with Barcelona in the past, Fabian Ruiz, who is 27 years old, is not even close to being a regular starter at Paris Saint-Germain. This season, he has been included in the starting lineup for fewer than half of the league matches that they have played.
In addition, Ruiz has not participated in the UEFA Champions League very much this season, which may serve as an incentive for him to investigate other possibilities in the event that they present themselves in January.

Carlos Soler (PSG)
Ruiz’s colleague at Paris Saint-Germain and Spain has been performing significantly worse under Luis Enrique. He has only played 285 minutes across all competitions this season (with only three starts), and he has not seen a single minute of action in the Champions League.
Given that Soler has been reduced to a testimonial role in Paris, he might take into consideration moving away if the opportunity were to present itself.
Pablo Fornals (West Ham United)
For West Ham United, Pablo Fornals has seen a decline in his significance as a result of the fact that he has only started one of the twelve Premier League matches this season. The majority of his playing time has been spent in the UEFA Europa League so far.
In point of fact, the 27-year-old former Villarreal star has only played 167 minutes of Premier League football throughout eight games, and he has played 190 minutes in three European matches.
Thiago Alcantara (Liverpool)
Another player whose name has been brought up rather frequently in connection with Barcelona throughout the most recent transfer windows, Thiago is believed to be a potential candidate for the club due to a number of variables, one of which is the fact that his current deal with Liverpool will end in 2024.
In spite of this, Thiago is now suffering from an injury. He had surgery to repair a hip problem during the previous season, but he experienced a relapse following the procedure.
