While Germany led Austria 1-0 in the 49th minute, the incident occurred. While trying to win the ball from Austria, Sane fouled Phillipp Mwene from behind. 

The ball seemed harmless, but surprising events followed. Mwene stood up provocatively, talking to Sane.
