During the period, Steven, who was actively playing for Liverpool and representing England, expressed to OK! his appreciation for the opportunity to pause his rigorous training routine during their retreat near Faro in the Algarve region.

Now at the age of 40, Steven shared, “As soon as I knew how much time I was going to have off, Alex and I sat down and planned what we were going to do.” He mentioned that it marked exactly one year since their lavish wedding at the esteemed Cliveden House hotel, situated on the border between Berkshire and Buckinghamshire—a location where the Duchess of Sussex stayed the night before her wedding to Prince Harry.

In 2007, Alex and Steven exchanged vows.

Their wedding was attended by notable personalities such as Peter Crouch, Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Redknapp, Ashley Cole, and Ashley’s then-wife Cheryl Cole. Reflecting on the swift passage of time, Steven expressed disbelief that the anniversary had already arrived. He hinted at having something special planned for Alex.

Alex, who works as a model, admitted she would love to relive the 2007 event, confessing to feeling “nervous” on that memorable day. Steven acknowledged his pre-wedding jitters but described the actual day as “perfect.”

In discussing their wedding film, 38-year-old Alex mentioned that their daughter Lilly “absolutely loves it” and watches it in its entirety. Steven added, “She watched it every night for a while.”

In 2010, Steven assumed the role of captain for England, and during an interview, he expressed the joy of spending time with his girls. He revealed that Lilly, in particular, recognizes his departures at the age of four. Despite the challenges of frequent travel and being away from home, he highlighted the special bond he shares with his daughters, referring to them as “daddy’s girls.” He acknowledged the difficulty of leaving Lilly, saying, “It hurts me to know I’m leaving her again,” but emphasized that it’s an integral part of his profession.

Steven described the contrasting lifestyle of being away for three weeks a month during the football season and the relaxation he experiences in the summer, cherishing moments with his family. He emphasized the shift in focus from football during this time, stating, “Football is out of my mind.”

Discussing their relationship, Steven humorously recalled asking Alex on two dates in 2002, with a playful mention of her alleged initial refusal. The couple expressed their desire to have a third child, with Steven jokingly expressing concerns about handling a household with four girls. When asked if he feared women, he responded in jest, “Well, sometimes, but only because Alex turned them against me!” highlighting the lighthearted dynamics within their family.

Little did they know that three years later, in 2011, they would welcome their third child, a daughter named Lourdes. The family expanded again in 2017 when Steven’s wish for a son was granted, and Alex gave birth to their fourth child, a son named Lio George. Steven, who was the only male in the Gerrard family, joyfully shared the news with his Instagram followers, declaring, “Our family is complete.”

During their conversation in their Portugal home, Alex discussed her fitness routine, including power walking and running. In a playful exchange, Steven teased her about reaching his level of fitness, joking that she would have to work hard for it. He humorously remarked, “She would have to reach a certain level before she could do anything with me!”

Alex also delved into her ventures, sharing details about a style piece titled “Go Shopping With Alex.” Despite her accomplishments, she emphasized that she has never viewed herself as a “style icon” but rather as “a mum.” Notably, she created the Alex Gerrard collection for Forever Unique and modeled for the 2013 Lipsy VIP line.

Steven praised Alex’s sense of style, noting that she always looks beautiful and has great taste. While he acknowledged his own interest in dressing well, he mentioned that he avoids anything “too outrageous” in his wardrobe choices. In their dynamic, he expressed that he usually leaves her alone when it comes to fashion decisions but is not shy to speak up when things get heated.

Steven officially announced his retirement from international football in 2014 and eventually concluded his illustrious career on the international stage two years later. After dedicating 19 years to the sport, he reflected on his journey, expressing gratitude for the numerous high points throughout his career. He remarked, “I feel lucky to have had so many wonderful high points in my career,” acknowledging the fulfilling moments he experienced with Liverpool, England, and LA Galaxy. For Steven, donning the iconic red shirt of Liverpool was a realization of a childhood dream, marking a significant and cherished chapter in his football legacy.
