Again, the first three quarters went well. For the second straight game at the United Center, the Miami Heat did not trail after 36 minutes.
Fourth quarter concerns after succumbing in the last seconds Saturday night at the start of this five-game journey after not trailed until the final minute.
Challenge accepted.
Mission completed.
The Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls 118-100 Monday night to win eight of their past nine games after leading by double digits for the second time in three nights. The Heat won their first double-digit game of the season.
Two nights after blowing a 21-point lead, the Heat found balance and were on the throttle long enough to calm worries.
Center Bam Adebayo had 23 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists; guard Duncan Robinson had 22 points, including six 3-pointers; guard Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 19 points, including three 3-pointers; and forward Jimmy Butler, who did not need to be called up for late heroics, had 16 points.
The tour begins Wednesday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers and closes Friday and Saturday nights against the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets.
Five Degrees of Heat from Monday’s game:
1. Game flow: After such an open Saturday, the Heat started with a 12-2 advantage and led 33-27 in the opening period.
After leading 14 in the second session, the Heat led 65-53 at halftime and 93-81 in the fourth.
Butler rested for 29 minutes at the opening of the fourth quarter as the Heat extended their lead to 22.
2. A game after a career-high seven assists, Robinson started with sights on the basket, converting his first three 3-point goals and a driving layup for a 4-of-4 start and scoring 11 of the Heat’s first 17 points.
Robinson’s second 3-pointer came off a hurried оffensive possession with the shot time running out.
Finished 6 of 9 from beyond the arc.
Robinson made his sixth straight start in place of injured guard Tyler Herro.
3. Monday fun day: Butler had 12 points by halftime and was maximizing his chances.
Butler stopped to give phantom teammates air high-fives between free throws after a Bulls foul. The lane was clean as he shot.
Butler scoring on an early skyhook and saying “sky hook” throughout his sweeping motion was the highlight.
4. Clean sheet: After costly turnovers and Saturday night’s loss to the Bulls, the Heat had 17 assists to one turnover Monday night.
Kyle Lowry again prioritized passing, with five assists and no turnovers in the first half.
The smooth ball movement led to 8-of-17 first-half 3-pointers.
5. A little Love: Heat backup center Love had 11 points and five rebounds at halftime a game before his first game back in Cleveland since leaving the Cavaliers on a buyout last February.
Love, who entered the game at.282 on 3-pointers, was 3 of 4 in the first half, tying his season high.
Love was instrumental in the Heat’s 29 first-half points after Saturday’s 23.
