Lautaro Martinez, who replaced Alexis Mac Allister at halftime, nearly equalized with a header that Sergio Rochet saved after Angel Di Maria’s corner.

Nunez’s calm finish past Emiliano Martinez following Nicolas de la Cruz’s through ball sealed the win for the Celeste.

It terminated the reigning world champions’ 14-game unbeaten streak and cut their 10-team South American qualifying group lead over Uruguay to two points.
