Cristiano Ronaldo’s ambitious plans for a new mansion in his hometown of Lisbon have stirred discontent among local residents, who have raised concerns about the ongoing construction.
DETAILS OF THE PROJECT:
Situated in Cascais, just 20 minutes west of Lisbon, the property is estimated to be worth €22 million (£19.2m/$23.9m), making it the most expensive house in Portugal. The four-story mansion is designed with facades entirely made of glass to offer breathtaking views of the landscape.
The plans include amenities like a cinema room, gym, tennis court, and four luxurious suites.
CHALLENGES DURING CONSTRUCTION:
The complexity of the building project has resulted in budget increases and extended deadlines, causing dissatisfaction among Ronaldo’s prospective neighbors. The construction, which started three years ago, has impacted the surrounding areas, with one resident expressing frustration over the disruptions caused by the colossal structure, referring to it as the “pyramid” of Pharaoh Ronaldo.
RESIDENTS’ CONCERNS:
A local resident voiced concerns about the three years of construction, street closures, and the impact on their environment, stating, “The house is so big that it looks like a hospital. My street has been cut off for months, my garden is full of dust.”
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS:
The construction is expected to continue until June 2024, coinciding with Ronaldo’s contract with Al-Nassr until June 2025. Residents hope for a resolution to the ongoing challenges, as they express a desire for the construction phase to conclude without further disruptions.
