Angel Reese stated Friday that after the LSU wоme𝚗’s basketball team defeated Iowa in the NCAA national championship game, several celebrities contacted her.
In an ESPN SportsCenter interview, Reese said:
“Many celebs, rappers. Our squad has Lil Wayne’s support. Drake and I spoke. I spoke to Future. I spoke to DJ Khaled, French Montana. We heard from LeBron James. Being supported by so many people—even the male-dominated side—and having them respect wоme𝚗’s basketball. Important for our game.”
In Kim Mulkey’s second season, the Tigers reached the NCAA wоme𝚗’s basketball Final Four for the sixth time in program history and won their first national title.
Reese led the Tigers with 23.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 1.6 blocks in 2022-23.
LSU’s 6’3″ sophomore had 15 points, five assists, and a team-high 10 rebounds in their 102-85 title game triumph over Iowa.
Reese was criticized on social media for following Iowa star Caitlin Clark in the final seconds and taunting her by pointing to her finger to signify winning a ring and doing WWE Superstar John Cena’s “You can’t see me” hand signal, which Clark had done earlier in the tournament.
Clark, who won every major College Player of the Year Award, tried to defuse the Reese question after the game.
Clark told SportsCenter on Tuesday that Reese shouldn’t be “criticized at all.”
Since Sunday’s final game, many have supported Reese, and some of the world’s biggest rappers and athletes seem to be behind her.
