The Patriots evidently gave Jack Jones one last chance, which he did not take.
The sophomore cornerback was allegedly dismissed by New England on Monday, a day after he was benched in Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Jones might return to the Patriots’ practice squad if he clears waivers, but his career in New England appears to be gone.
After apparently skipping curfew the night before, the 2022 fourth-round pick was benched to start the Week 9 home loss to the Washington Commanders. Despite his dubious sideline conduct in that game, Jones traveled to Germany for Sunday’s game against Indianapolis, unlike J.C. Jackson. Jones, on the other hand, was benched to begin the game and appeared to pout on the sideline.
According to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, the 25-year-old’s unwillingness to demonstrate greater professionalism was the final straw before his discharge.
“Patriots CB Jack Jones was given an opportunity to improve his attitude this week and Germany and didn’t, per source,” Kyed wrote in a post on the X platform. “As a result, he was waived.”
To mention a few difficulties, his one-plus season in New England was tarnished by a suspension, two injured reserve spells, a weapons-related arrest, a missed curfew, and many benchings. The Patriots had no choice but to move on.
Shaun Wade has filled in for Jones the last two weeks and is expected to play a larger role in the future.
