In 2016, Luis made his professional debut with Barranquilla FC, his childhood team. He was born on January 13, 1997, in Barrancas, Colombia. Atletico Junior, a team in the Primera A, saw potential in him and signed him in 2017. The winger became a fixture in the starting lineup and was a key contributor to the club’s two national championships by the end of his second full season.

His impressive play attracted the attention of several European clubs, but in the summer of 2019, FC Porto paid €7 million to get the services of the fast runner.
