The realization of Luis Diaz’s pipe dream: rising from obscurity to prominence in Liverpool

In 2016, Luis made his professional debut with Barranquilla FC, his childhood team. He was born on January 13, 1997, in Barrancas, Colombia. Atletico Junior, a team in the Primera A, saw potential in him and signed him in 2017. The winger became a fixture in the starting lineup and was a key contributor to the club’s two national championships by the end of his second full season.

His impressive play attracted the attention of several European clubs, but in the summer of 2019, FC Porto paid €7 million to get the services of the fast runner. In his debut season with the club, the Drages won both the league and cup owing in great part to the Colombian’s scoring and assisting. The forward’s crowning success was lighting up the 2021 Copa America, where he scored the most goals of any player. In the icy winter of 2022, he uprooted and moved to Liverpool.
