Mason Greenwood joined Getafe on loan in the summer and has scored three goals in 10 games for the La Liga side. The Sun reported that Getafe’s board of directors wants to negotiate with MU about an official transfer or loan contract extension.

A source said : “Getafe has discussed trying to convince MU to negotiate so they can make an official offer. The club believes that it can be attractive to MU so that they do not need to pay Mason’s salary. “.

“The more feasible option is for MU to agree to extend the loan contract because they know that Mason is happy and is rebuilding his life in Spain.”

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 following rаpe and аssаult charges. However, those charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023, after key witnesses withdrew.

In August, after conducting a lengthy internal investigation, the club decided that he would not remain at Old Trafford in response to pressure from the public and fans.

In the final days of the transfer window, Getafe signed the striker on loan and since then, he has always been warmly received by the club and their fans. 

Greenwood currently lives in Spain with his wife and young daughter. Greenwood’s current contract with Man United runs until 2025 and he still earns £75,000 per week, part of which is paid by Getafe. 

Any rumors of Greenwood returning to Old Trafford after being on loan at Getafe will certainly cause a negаtive reaction. Therefore, the option of selling him off seems to be more favorable for both sides.
