Barcelona could face Lionel Messi’s Argentina at Camp Nou

Lionel Messi’s heartbreaking exit from FC Barcelona, when he was forced to quit his boyhood club owing to financial restraints, is one of the most tragic episodes in FC Barcelona’s recent history.

There has been constant rumors about his comeback since he left for PSG in 2021, and a reunion seemed to be in the works last summer.

Messi, however, made the decision to play for Inter Miami, where he was reunited with Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, two former Barcelona greats.

As part of the club’s 125th centennial festivities in 2024, Memorabilia1899 on X reports that Barcelona could play current World Champions Argentina in the new Spotify Camp Nou. This raises the prospect that Messi will visit his hometown once more.

Messi may have returned home.

Although the match between a national team and club might seem unusual, Barcelona has faced off against powerful foreign teams before.

The Brazilian national team came to Camp Nou to play an exhibition match in 1999 in honor of Barça’s centennial.

When the team celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2024, the board, chaired by Joan Laporta, would welcome having the best player in FC Barcelona history be present and receive a well-deserved tribute.

Given that Messi and Joan Laporta had a tense relationship when he left Catalonia, their bad feelings may be eased by such a significant reunion.

With the Copa America scheduled for the following year, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is projected to continue playing for Argentina until 2024. He is also predicted to be a World Cup champion.

It is therefore quite possible that Messi is given the chance to go back to his roots and get the farewell that he was sadly denied.
