Man City 3-0 Young Boys: The defending champion won an early ticket to the next round

Man City defeated Young Boys 3-0 in a controlled match to secure the top spot in Group G and the ticket to advance past the group stage.

Both Man City and Young Boys picked up the tempo of play from the first minutes of the game, making it a somewhat interesting start to the game. It is not unexpected that the home team is in charge of the game because home field advantage is valued more.

Man City got a gift from heaven when they were fouled in the penalty area and awarded a penalty, despite their best efforts to prevent the goal. Erling Haaland took full advantage of the penalty spot to start the scoring in the game.

Despite playing slowly in the last minutes due to their significant lead, Man City scored a second goal prior to the end of the first half. A superb pass from Jack Grealish found Phil Foden, who finished well to make it 2-0 at the end of the first half.

The way the game was set up going into the second half, Man City was not under too much pressure to score. The home team did, however, manage to hold onto the game and score the third goal.

At Etihad Stadium, it was none other than Erling Haaland who scored the second goal to round off a successful day for the home squad. The Norwegian attacker beat the Young Boys goalkeeper with a stunning blast outside the penalty area.

With the exception of the opposing team’s red card for fouling Nathan Ake, there were no other noteworthy incidents in the minutes that followed. Man City ultimately prevailed 3-0 to become the first team in the 2023–24 Champions League to get past the group stage.
