Coach Erik Ten Hag is under a lot of pressure when Man United has not performed well recently. Man United just lost 0-3 to great rival Man City at Old Trafford. Ten Hag called star Marcus Rashford’s action of holding a birthday party right after the defeat to Man City unacceptable.

When asked by the media about Rashford’s incident and whether Rashford would receive disciplinary action, Ten Hag said: “I know he held a party after the match against Man City, his actions were unacceptable. Rashford later apologized to me and this was just an internal matter.”

Last season, Marcus Rashford was removed from the starting lineup by coach Erik Ten Hag in the match against Wolves in the Premier League for arriving late to the team meeting. However, coach Ten Hag said that he will still let Rashford be in the starting lineup in the away trip to Fulham in round 11 of the Premier League. The Dutch strategist believes that Rashford still meets his requirements despite his off-field mistakes: “I know how hard Rashford has worked, he is a person with great motivation. He made a mistake but still fit my requirements. He made one mistake but it was just a mistake off the field. Rashford is trying to do everything he can to help the team.”

Man United has just experienced two consecutive defeats in the Premier League and Confederation Cup with the same score of 0-3 against Man City and Newcastle. Rashford’s lackluster performance is considered part of the reason for those two losses. The English player has dropped a lot compared to last season with only 1 goal and 1 assist after 10 Premier League matches this season.
