Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has given a positive update on Ben Doak’s fitness, expressing his delight at the young talent’s return to training. Doak had been sidelined with a muscle injury sustained while on international duty with Scotland Under-21s earlier in the month, causing him to miss Liverpool’s recent matches against Everton, Toulouse, and Nottingham Forest.
Lijnders confirmed that Doak rejoined training on Monday, and he described the 17-year-old as being full of energy and enthusiasm, expressing his pleasure at having him back on the training ground.
While Lijnders didn’t explicitly state whether Doak would be available for Liverpool’s match against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup, it’s clear that the young talent is making progress in his recovery. The Liverpool website also mentioned that both Ben Doak and Conor Bradley are taking steps forward in their ongoing recoveries from injury.
“Ben Doak trained yesterday [for the] first time,” said Lijnders.
“How Ben Doak is: full of energy, a big heart, always wanting to go. Good to see that, really good to see him back.”
Ben Doak has made an impressive breakthrough into Liverpool’s first team this season, despite his young age. He has showcased his talent in the Premier League and has earned praise from Liverpool icon James Milner, who described his abilities as “absolutely incredible.” With eight competitive senior appearances for Liverpool, including two starts, Doak appears to have a promising future ahead of him, establishing himself as one of the standout young talents at Anfield since joining the club from Celtic in 2022.
