HOUSTON (Associated Press) — On Sunday night, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets by a score of 106-95. Stephen Curry led the Warriors in scoring with 24 points, including four 3-pointers in the game’s last minute, and Klay Thompson contributed 19 points to the Warriors’ victory.

Before the Rockets started closing the gap, the Warriors had a lead of as high as 16 points over their opponents.

Jalen Green scored a basket for them when they were in the middle of the fourth quarter, which put them ahead by two points. Curry grabbed control of the game at that time, shooting four 3-pointers in less than two minutes to spark a 15-2 run that gave Golden State a 100-89 lead with almost three minutes remaining in the game.

After missing the first two games of the season due to a sprained left ankle, Draymond Green finally made his return to action. Chris Paul was demoted to the bench after his return to the starting lineup, making this the first time in his 12-year NBA career that he has ever come off the bench. His return to the starting lineup pushed Chris Paul to a reserve role.

Since the NBA began keeping count of games started in 1982, Paul had entered Sunday with the distinction of being the only player to have appeared in more games and started each one. Paul was the starting point guard for the first 1,365 games of his NBA career, which includes postseason action.

The last time Paul didn’t start a game that counted was while he was in college. To be more specific, it was on December 13, 2004, when he was slightly late for the team bus and sat on the bench for the first four minutes of Wake Forest’s game versus Temple. The final 25 games of Paul’s college career, as well as every game of his 19 NBA seasons up to Sunday, were all ones in which he started.

Paul recorded eight points and seven assists in 27 minutes of play after combining for 24 points and 21 assists in Golden State’s first two games of this season. Paul entered the game with 6 minutes and 58 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Damian Lillard, who was playing in the 833rd game of his career on Sunday night for Milwaukee, now has more starts than any other active player without ever having appeared as a reserve. This is due to the fact that Chris Paul’s streak has finally come to an end. The next player on that list is Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks, who has started each of his 748 career NBA games.

Draymond Green played for a total of 21 minutes and finished with four points, five rebounds, and five assists. His head coach, Steve Kerr, noted that Green was on a minutes restriction.

The Rockets are currently 0-3 to start the season and were led by Jalen Green with 21 points and Alperen Sengun with 19 points.

The game was tied at 81-81 after the first six points of the fourth quarter were scored by Houston. The Golden State Warriors regained the lead thanks to a jump jumper from Paul.

A dunk by Jeff Green later in the fourth quarter knotted the game again, and a basket by Jalen Green put the Rockets ahead with approximately six and a half minutes left before Curry grabbed control of the game.

After a 3-pointer by Curry with roughly seven minutes left in the third quarter, the Warriors had a 13-point lead over their opponent.

After then, Houston scored the next seven points to start a run of 14 points that cut the margin to 72-69 with four minutes left in the quarter. Houston’s run brought the score to 72-69. During that stretch of play, Smith made a 3-pointer and Brooks scored four points.

The Warriors’ Gary Payton II sank a three-point shot, but the Rockets responded by going on a 4-1 run to go within three points once more. This time, Moses Moody sank a three-pointer, and then Jonathan Kuminga made two out of three free throws, increasing the lead to 81-73.

But Jae’Sean Tate was able to narrow the margin to six going into the fourth quarter by making two free throws as the quarter came to a close.
