All the things you probably didn’t know in Tyler Herro’s latest interview with Ocean Drive Magazine about basketball, fashion and family
An outstanding player for the Miami Heat, Tyler Herro is concentrating all of his efforts on bringing home the championship.
When NBA player Tyler Herro (@nolimithero) started his rookie season with the Miami Heat in 2019, he caused a lot of noise, which led to him earning the nickname “Baby GOAT.”
Herro played a significant role in the remarkable season that the club had, during which they won the Eastern Conference and advanced all the way to the NBA Finals. He grabbed 4.1 rebounds per game on average and had a 3-point shooting percentage of 38.9%. He scored 13.5 points per game on average.
Since then, he has kept up this pace, and at the conclusion of the 2021-2022 NBA regular season, he was presented with the honorary Sixth Man of the Year title. This award is presented to the bench player who had the best performance among those who did not start the game.
“Being the Sixth Man was not a goal of mine, but receiving the honor was extremely rewarding,” says Herro. “However, I want to be a starter in the league, and so that is what I’m focusing on at the moment.”
Concerning his goals, there is one thing that can be said with absolute certainty: he wants to win a championship. Hero and his teammates are more determined than ever to make it to the championship round after coming within one game of the NBA Finals but ultimately falling short to the Boston Celtics.
Because we were only one game away from the championship, securing that place was extremely important. We are bringing back a significant number of the same players, and I believe that there is a possibility that we may rediscover our form from when we won the championship.
During the offseason, Herro has been going to the gym three times every day in order to be in shape for the next season.
“In a typical day, I get up at five in the morning and perform two or three extra workouts at various points during the day. Aside from that, I let my body rest and recuperate for about a month and a half after the season was over. “However, I’m working hard once more in preparation for another leap,” he observes. “I’m taking another leap.”
In addition to Herro and the squad’s great aptitude and determined work ethic, the formidable and singular status that the team possesses in the NBA is a direct result of the undeniable chemistry that exists among them.
“Our relationship is genuinely one of a kind. Herro claims that it is completely unique in comparison to any other NBA organization. “We are proud to be one and to have come together as one. It’s something we have faith in and work hard to achieve. When it’s time for work, our locker room gets down to business, but when it’s time for play, everyone relaxes and has a good time.
When Herro isn’t putting in work on the basketball court, his favorite thing to do is hang out with his loved ones at home. The 22-year-old player takes his position as a parent just as seriously as he does his NBA title. He already has a daughter, Zya, who is 9 months old, and he and his girlfriend, Katya Elise Henry, recently announced that they are expecting another kid via a beautiful Instagram picture. Zya is their first child together.
“When I have free time, the only thing I want to do is spend it with my daughter and the rest of my family. ” We spend time together, whether it be at the beach, on a walk, outside, listening to music, or simply unwinding, with the idea that even if basketball is still my work, the most important thing is to take care of my family. He states, “I try to find a balance between the two.”
Regarding the prospect of bringing up a family in Miami, he is adamant that there is no other city in the world that he would rather be in. From the warm weather all year round to the beautiful beaches, he believes that this location offers the best conditions for his family to thrive.
Basketball isn’t the only thing that keeps Herro occupied when he’s not on the court; he’s also a huge fashion fan and a bit of a trendsetter. He was earned the title of Sports Illustrated’s Best Dressed Athlete in 2021, which is a notable honor given the enormous foray that NBA players have made into the fashion industry in recent years.
He says, “I try to keep my style as classy as possible,” and it is something he strives for. Despite the fact that I want to maintain a nice appearance, I am not scared to express myself by the way I dress. To me, fashion is a type of art, and the way I express myself via it is analogous to how one can express themselves through painting.
Whether he is wearing a pearl necklace or the newest season of the Louis Vuitton Men’s high fashion collection, Herro emanates a natural ease in both his fashion choices and in front of the camera. This is the case regardless of whether he is wearing the latest season of Louis Vuitton Men’s high fashion collection. In addition to having a collaboration with Armani fragrance and a partnership with Hudson Jeans, he has also posed for Louis Vuitton, and he is actively working to increase his position in the fashion sector.
“For my own pleasure, I find a lot of joy in the world of fashion. “I really enjoy it,” adds Herro. “When it comes to the outfits that I wear, I have an extremely open mind. During the season, I work with a consultant, and she introduces me to a variety of brands, which causes my style to grow on a daily basis.”
He dresses up these outfits by accessorizing with his cherished pearl necklace and pair of sunglasses.
“I’m obsessed with my pearl necklaces, and I can’t go a day without wearing a watch. Timepieces are interesting to me. In addition to that, I have a thing for hats, spectacles, jewelry, and pretty much anything else. It contributes to an overall improvement in the appearance.”
If Herro just has one luxury item, it must be a spectacular timepiece because it is always on his wrist.
He says, “I believe that there is nothing finer than a watch that has been well-designed.”
Herro admits that he takes pleasure in splurging on his clothing purchases, but he also places a high importance on giving back to the community. It is for this reason that he formed the T. Herro Foundation. The goal of Herro and the foundation, whose motto is “empower the heroes of tomorrow,” is to provide enriching opportunities to the greatest number of children and families in the Miami area as they possibly can.
“Our primary goal is to give back to children who are less fortunate, and we do so by holding events throughout the year, such as back-to-school events, holiday parties, and Thanksgiving turkey drives,” he says. “We do this by holding events such as back-to-school events, holiday parties, and Thanksgiving turkey drives.” We have made it a priority to contribute to the betterment of our neighborhood. “The best part is seeing smiles on other people’s faces,” said one participant.
It is obvious that children play an important part in Herro’s life, and the fact that he has his own kids is what drives him to get out of bed every morning and give it his best effort.
“My daughter is my greatest source of motivation,” he says. “My wife is my second greatest source of motivation.” Everything shifted with her arrival into the world. She is always in the back of my mind, reminding me of my purpose and who I am doing things for. She is the reason I do the things I do.
He attributes his ability to maintain equilibrium in both his roles as a father and a professional basketball player to the support he receives from his family and support network. And he is more determined than ever to bring the championship back to Miami, not just for himself but also for the rest of his squad, his family, and the entire town of Miami.
If you truly put your mind to anything, there is no limit to what you may achieve. “If you truly commit to it and establish your goal, then it will happen,” he says. “I guarantee it.”
What does this suggest about our chances of winning the championship this year? I ask.
A grin appears on his face as he confirms, “Oh, we will.”
