One of the Lakers’ best players wasn’t happy about that.
Michael Cooper, a five-time NBA champion, expressed his displeasure with James’ eating during the second half of the Lakers’ Friday night preseason game against the Warriors.
Cooper stated, “I didn’t like that,” in the most recent installment of his podcast, “Showtime with Coop.” “Yes, he’s LeBron James, but still, man, you gotta respect the game.” He’s over there; I have nothing against the person eating, but go eat in the locker room. After you go, join the squad instead of simply sitting at the end of the bench and munching.”
Before changing into street clothes for the remainder of the evening, James, 38, finished with 12 points, five assists, and two rebounds in just 18 minutes of play.He made his second preseason appearance after defeating the Nets on October 9 with 10 points, five assists, and three rebounds.
Cooper, now 67, won five NBA titles in the 1980s while playing with the Lakers for 12 seasons.
The guard is an eight-time All-Defensive team selection and the 1986–1987 season’s defensive player of the year.
From 1994 to 1997, Cooper served as the Lakers’ assistant coach. He subsequently moved on to the Los Angeles Sparks, where he first served as the WNBA team’s assistant coach before becoming its head coach.
He also held positions as the head coach of the USC women’s team, head coach of the Atlanta Dream, head coach of the USC women’s team, assistant coach, and temporary head coach for the Nuggets, head coach of the Albuquerque Thunderbirds in the D-League, and head coach of the Sparks for a second time.
Next Tuesday, James will play the reigning champion Nuggets in the first game of his 21st NBA season.
