Marc Guiu is not a rookie under Xavi Hernández. Although only 17 years old (January 4, 2006), the Juvenil A central striker debuted for the first team on June 6 in the closing match of the Barça 2022-23 season: tribute to Japan’s Andrés Iniesta against Vissel Kobe (0-2). It didn’t count officially because it was a friendly match, but it did add experience. He played the entire second half as a substitute for Robert Lewandowski and almost scored with a superb header from a corner.
On his official debut with the first team against Athletic, he shocked everyone with a goal after just 23 seconds and two touches of the ball, showing that he is an effective goalscorer and can become a into a very exciting player for the future of the club.
Xavi does not only count the Granollers-born striker among his favourites, although he grew up in Sant Celoni and has been with Barça since the age of seven. Deco, an international football student, before joining the Barça club as sporting director, included him in the list of the most promising 9′ players after meeting him in the Barça youth team and also Spain’s U17 team reached the semi-finals of the European Championships held in Hungary in the summer. The focus was on Lamine Yamal, but Guiu also scored four goals in the final stages and Pichichi was divided between two Barça players and two others. He added them to three goals in the rankings: seven in eight games with the U-17s.
