Harry Maguire shines as Man of the Match in Man Utd’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United, silencing his critics

Man Utd marched to Sheffield Utd’s pitch aiming to discover a second straight victory for the first time in the 2023–24 Premier League after a “shocking” triumph over Brentford two weeks ago. Coach Ten Hag’s team left with a 2-1 victory. While Man Utd’s victory over the worst team did not exactly win over the supporters, for the teachers and pupils at Ten Hag, winning already means reaching the objective.

McTominay, a Scottish midfielder, is set up to play with Amrabat in the middle of midfield as a result of Casemiro’s injury. Despite Man Utd’s ongoing left-back dilemma, manager Ten Hag has given the midfield top priority by moving Amrabat back to the right position, moving Dalot to the left, and starting Lindelof at right back.

With just one point from eight Premier League games, Sheffield United is in dire straights. However, thanks to home advantage, the home squad at Bramall Lane got off to a strong start against Man Utd. McBurnie had an opportunity to score in the third minute when goalie Onana was the only player in front of him in the center of the penalty area. Regretfully, he fired directly toward the opponent’s position.

Manchester United had a lot of difficulty in the first half. Despite having few good attacking opportunities, the away team unexpectedly took the lead. After Fernandes’s poor pass in the 28th minute, McTominay supported his chest and fired diagonally. The Sheffield United goalie saw the ball enter the net while remaining motionless since he was out of sight.

Following the loss, Sheffield United recovered well. When McTominay touched the ball with his hand in the penalty area in the 34th minute, the home team was awarded a penalty kick. At the 11-meter mark, McBurnie overcame Onana, assisting the home team in a 1-1 draw.

After drawing even, Manchester United launched a really potent offensive. Man Utd hit the crossbar of Sheffield Utd’s goal in the last minutes of the first half following Fernandes’ free kick in the 45+3 minute, but the two teams ended the half in a tie.

Entering the second half, Man Utd increased their offensive pressure to find more goals. In the 67th minute, Amrabat shot from outside the penalty area and the ball bounced off the post. Man Utd’s constant pressure was effective in the 77th minute. Dalot received the ball in the middle and then put the ball into the top right corner of the goal. An exemplary finish by the Portuguese defender helped Man Utd take a 2-1 lead.

During the remaining time of the match, Sheffield Utd must push up the attacking formation, creating opportunities for Man Utd to counterattack. The away team had a few good opportunities to score more goals, unfortunately Hojlund was not lucky in this match as he continuously missed shots.

With three more points from the match in round 9, Man Utd temporarily rose to 8th place when West Ham has not yet played. Ten Hag’s team could return to 9th place if West Ham wins against Aston Villa. The gap between Man Utd and the top 4 is currently 5 points.
