Good luck, Andre Iguodala retires: Saying goodbye to the NBA’s special Finals MVP after winning 4 championships

Andre Iguadala, a veteran basketball player who competed in the American professional basketball tournament for 19 years and won four titles, has announced that he is retiring from the sport.

Andre Iguodala, a four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors who also won the title of Most Valuable Player of the Finals in 2015, just made the announcement that he will be retiring for good after 19 seasons in the league.

He finished his career having played in the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, having scored nearly 14,000 points, and having been a member of the NBA’s top defensive team on two separate occasions.

Iguodala retired from his career at the age of 39

“This is the right time ,” the 39-year-old player shared in a 4-hour phone call with AndScape. “Time is starting to become limited for me, I don’t want to save anything. I don’t want to have to try to allocate time anymore, especially with my family.”

“You want to play at a high level, but family is much more important. My son is 16 and then my two daughters. I look forward to seeing them grow up during those important years.”

The former University of Arizona star was selected with the ninth pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. At the peak of his career, he averaged 19.9 points in the 2007-08 season.

This defensive specialist also played for the US team that won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and won the world championship in 2010. He ranks 39th in NBA history in terms of total games played.

Iguodala used to play for the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat. However, all glory came to him in the Golden State Warriors shirt. Owner Joe Lacob said in 2019 that he planned to retire the number 9 shirt when the veteran retired.

Back in July 2013, Iguodala turned down a 5-year contract with the Nuggets to join the Warriors via sign-and-trade on a 4-year contract worth $48 million. It became the best move of his career.

At Golden State, Iggy won NBA championships in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022. After leaving Miami, Iguodala played the final two seasons of his career with the Warriors, including 8 games last season. . Golden State and many teams wanted to sign him this season, but were all rejected.

Iguodala’s biggest career mark is the Finals MVP title in 2015. Limiting LeBron James’ influence helped him achieve this achievement even though he initially only entered the game as the sixth man.
