Difficult deal: Manchester City wants €50 million to sell Joao Cancelo permanently to Barcelona

Joao Cancelo is already quite popular at FC Barcelona, despite the fact that he has only been at the club for a little over a month at this point.

On the day when the transfer deadline for the summer occurred, the Portuguese international player, who is 29 years old, arrived on loan from Manchester City. He has quickly established himself as a regular starter for Xavi’s teams.

Due to the significant influence he has had, Barca are already discussing the possibility of Cancelo signing a permanent contract with the club. Joan Laporta and Deco have both hinted that this may happen earlier this week.

The sum of €50 million is sought by Manchester City.

Now, it has been reported by SPORT that Barcelona are unwavering in their desire to make Joao Cancelo’s move to the club permanent, and they have reportedly informed Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, of this desire.

Although there is no pressing need to get this done, the reigning champions of La Liga are of the opinion that the sooner the chapter is closed and the deal is finalized, the better it will be for all parties involved.

Cancelo and his entourage want to make the transition permanent as well, and given the current state of affairs, it is plainly evident that the right-back will never play for Manchester City again.

However, the current English and European champions will not make things simple for Barcelona because they are demanding €50 million in transfer fees in order to let Cancelo leave the club.

The option of extending his loan term, which is something that Deco would want due to Barca’s resources, looks to be out of the question as far as the Cityzens are concerned, which is unfortunate because it would benefit both parties.

Nevertheless, given the current state of affairs, Barcelona are not in a position to fulfill Manchester City’s request of €50 million for Cancelo.

Instead, the source adds that the Blaugrana would be willing to provide set fees of €25 million, in addition to extra variables whose values would be based on the individual’s and the team’s respective goals.

It is said that Cancelo has given his approval for such a transfer, and he would be willing to stick to his guns and turn down other offers, just like his compatriot and fellow Portuguese star Joao Felix, who is also now on loan at Barcelona.

Cancelo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, made it quite apparent that the move to Barcelona would be a permanent one when he sent the player to the club on loan during the summer of last year. As a result of this, he is committed to making every effort to ensure that the collaboration is maintained on terms that are satisfactory for all parties involved.

It is possible that Cancelo will transfer to Barcelona on a permanent basis, and with the possible return of either Sergino Dest or Julian Araujo from loan, the club’s right-back position would be solidified for the foreseeable future.
