Cristiano Ronaldo has been called ‘arrogant’ by Fabio Capello, who has also stated that the Portugal captain was ‘cumbersome’ for his nation at the 2022 World Cup.
In an interview with the Italian news source Corriere Della Sera, the former England manager discussed the event and called Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez “stupid” for his vulgar gesture during the final.
Although he appears to have learned a lot from Qatar, Capello was mainly insensitive when discussing Ronaldo’s less than ideal tournament exit.
After Ronaldo’s dismal World Cup exit, Capello remarked, “It’s a shame for what he’s done in his career and something he brought upon himself.”
He can’t be questioned as a player, but he was conceited. He offered himself, but he was unable to locate a team that would accept him; as a result, he has grown to be a little burdensome.
Inflicting one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, Morocco defeated Portugal 1-0 in the World Cup quarterfinals, causing Ronaldo to leave the field in tears.
Ronaldo has had a challenging few months after Man United banished him following his controversial conversation with Piers Morgan and after head coach Fernando Santos repeatedly left him out of Portugal’s starting lineup.
Following the World Cup final, Argentina’s Martinez, the goalkeeper, received the Golden Glove award. He then made a nasty gesture at the trophy presentation.
Graham Souness and other critics have called his acts “embarrassing,” although Capello agreed, calling them “stupid.”
The Italian also talked about Lionel Messi, Ronaldo’s former rival, and stated that he believed the Argentina captain was on the same level as Pele and Diego Maradona even prior to their thrilling victory against France in the World Cup final.
“In my opinion, he was comparable even prior to the World Cup,” the Italian remarked. “Messi and Maradona accomplished feats beyond the imagination of others.”
Capello claimed to be a huge fan of Inter Milan center-forward Lautaro Martínez, who had an amazing tournament for Argentina and has previously been linked to a move to the Premier League.
“I like him; he is a striker in every sense.” In the end, he moved a little slowly, but this is partially due to the slower pace of Italian football.
In the tournament final, Argentina defeated France 4-2; Les Bleus were unable to become the third side in World Cup history to win two titles in a row.
Capello asserted that Didier Deschamps was correct to leave Karim Benzema off the team, but he did concede that France might have defeated Argentina if he had been on the field.
When questioned if Deshcamps ought to have brought the Ballon d’Or winner back, he responded, “No.” “Before the 1993 Intercontinental Cup Final, I had the same conversation with [Dejan] Savicevic.
