Liverpool, keeping an eye on their defensive options, observed the talented center-back Goncalo Inacio during Portugal’s impressive 5-0 win against Bosnia & Herzegovina in the Euro 2024 qualifier.

The Merseyside giants currently rely on Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez as their central defensive choices. However, with both Van Dijk and Matip aged 32, there’s speculation that manager Jurgen Klopp may be considering a rebuild of his defensive line next year.

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo (page 13), Liverpool closely monitored Inacio’s performance during Portugal’s triumph over Bosnia on foreign soil. Inacio showcased his playmaking skills by providing a fine assist for Bruno Fernandes, a trait that has caught Jurgen Klopp’s attention.

The presence of Inacio in the national team spotlight has further enhanced his profile, and there is talk that he could be the next rising star to depart Sporting. Notably, Inacio’s contract, signed in August, includes a release clause of €60 million.

Inacio would be a highly valuable addition to Liverpool’s defensive ranks. He is known for his strong ball-playing abilities and effective clearance skills, along with a knack for making regular ball recoveries.
