During trade talks with the Washington Wizards this summer, the Miami Heat did not think that Bradley Beal was “$30 million better” than Tyler Herro, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe.
“I believe Tyler Herro received a vote of confidence from that. As per Lowe’s statement, which can be found starting at 15:40 on The Lowe Post, “We don’t think Bradley Beal, who’s…seven years older than Tyler Herro, is 30 million dollars better than Tyler Herro going forward,” the Heat reportedly considered the circumstances. “We just don’t think the upgrade is worth it.”
In the end, the Wizards sent Beal to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for a package that contained six future second-round picks, Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, and four future first-round pick swaps. they weren’t prepared to part with the former Sixth Man of the Year winner.
It’s important to remember that Beal inked a $251 million, five-year contract in 2022. A player option worth $57 million is included for the 2026–2027 campaign. Herro signed a four-year, $130 million rookie-scale extension in 2022, and he is now in his first year of that deal.
Many anticipated that the Heat would trade for another star player to help them compete for a championship after losing in five games to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals, despite Jimmy Butler’s amazing postseason play that helped the team win the Eastern Conference.
Beal’s name was mentioned in speculations almost immediately since it was widely assumed that he would leave the Wizards, who were rebuilding.
Miami was also considering superstar point guard Damian Lillard after he made a particular request for a trade to South Beach.
While Lillard was dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks, whom Miami upset in five games during their first-round playoff series last season, Beal finally joined the Suns.
The Heat reorganized their team after failing to get the two elite scorers. They lost key rotation players in free agency, including Gabe Vincent, Victor Oladipo, and Max Strus, and were replaced by R.J. Hampton, Josh Richardson, and youngster Jaime Jaquez Jr. in the first round.
While waiting for the next big player to demand a trade, Miami will try to make a run at the postseason and defend their title as the Eastern Conference champs.
