This offseason, the Miami Heat failed to make the majority of their trade targets. Although the Milwaukee Bucks were Damian Lillard’s eventual destination, they were his first choice. Although Jrue Holiday was traded to the Boston Celtics, they were still interested in him.
They lost two significant players in free agency, Max Strus and Gabe Vincent, but other than that, they largely had the same core that led them to the NBA Finals the previous year. The Heat did add Josh Richardson and other possible impact players in their own free agency. However, according to Ira Winderman of The Miami Heat Sun-Sentinel, Josh Richardson departed the Heat’s preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets early on Wednesday due to a foot ailment.
Josh Richardson, who concluded the previous season with the New Orleans Pelicans, inked a free agent contract with the Heat. Richardson was moved to the Pelicans during the NBA trade deadline, having started the 2022–23 season with the San Antonio Spurs.
After being selected by the Heat with the No. 40 overall choice in the 2015 NBA Draft, Richardson played his first four seasons in the league with them. He has also worn the uniforms of the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, and Philadelphia 76ers.
Richardson averaged 10.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals a game in 65 games played between the Spurs and Pelicans in the previous season. He also shot 43.1 percent from the field, 36.5 percent from three-point range, and 85.2 percent from the free throw line.
They’ll be hoping Josh Richardson’s injury isn’t too serious because he’s slated to play a big part for the Heat off the bench this season.
