“Brazil’s medical team led by Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar will coordinate with Al Hilal Club to have the best treatment plan for Neymar,” – The Brazilian Football Federation’s announcement read.
This is the second time this year Neymar has had to go on the operating table. Before that, he sat out for 5 months due to an ankle injury suffered in March. The Brazilian striker did not have much contribution at the club level in 2023.
Neymar will have to sit out for at least 6 months
Neymar’s injury is bad news for Al Hilal. Since joining the new team in the last summer transfer window, the former PSG striker has only made 3 appearances for the Saudi Arabia club and scored 1 goal.
Brazil is experiencing its second consecutive winless match and they are lagging behind Argentina in the race for World Cup qualifying in South America. After 4 matches, Brazil has 7 points and ranks third in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Many criticisms are directed at coach Fernando Diniz when the tactics he applies in the national team are considered inappropriate.
