Struggling in England, Kalvin Phillips considered leaving Man City

Kalvin Phillips admitted that the lack of playing time made him lose his sharpness and was recently lucky to not receive a red card against Italy.

Struggling in England, Kalvin Phillips considered leaving Man City

Coach Gareth Southgate decided to put his trust in Kalvin Phillips even though the English player was not used by Pep Guardiola at Man City this season. Phillips, along with Declan Rice, caused the Italian side’s creative players to be significantly limited in the match at Wembley.

In this match, Kalvin Phillips received a yellow card in the 9th minute and had to play extremely carefully. He was replaced by Jordan Henderson in the second half as a safety.

Kalvin Phillips admitted he was lucky to still be on the field because of a late tackle at the end of the first half. The English player believes that the problem lies in the lack of competition.

“I knew it was a yellow card. I stuck my foot out and was lucky not to get a red card. Football is like that and I am that type of player.

As a football player, you always want to compete. I haven’t done this in the past year and a half. I want to improve this. Let’s see what happens.

One thing I want to do is start for England. I played okay against Scotland and tried to be ready for what was to come.

Southgate used me today and I’m delighted to wear the white shirt again. What I want now is to play and I want to go to the Euros.”

This season, Kalvin Phillips has only started 1 match for Man City. Even though Rodri was suspended for 3 consecutive matches, the English midfielder was not used by Pep Guardiola. Phillips’ future at Etihad is extremely unclear.
