As the days before the 2023–24 season begins pass, Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers appear to be having fun. Recently, Davis captivated media with the tale of how Christian Wood, a recently acquired Lakers center, had an unpleasant series of circumstances that ended a Los Angeles practice.According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Davis stated, “[Wood] was talking a lot of stuff, and they were beating the Purple Team like 14-3 in a five-minute scrimmage.” “We prevailed 38–34. Woody missed a few significant free shots. We intentionally fouled him because, in the preseason, I believe he is only shooting about 38% from the field. Plan your strategy, you know? It should be mentioned that Davis spoke in a very lighthearted and humorous manner when making the remarks.

However, when the season begins in just over a week, Lakers supporters will be hoping that Christian Wood’s apparent deficiencies at Lakers practice do not translate. In order to provide the Lakers with much-needed depth at the center position—a necessity that was most prominently highlighted by Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets during the Lakers’ defeat in the Western Conference Finals last year—Wood joined with the organization this offseason.
