There are glimpses of a lethal connection between Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez at Anfield, but on this night, they faced off against each other as Colombia and Uruguay competed in a World Cup qualifier.

Immediately after the half-hour mark, former Everton player James Rodríguez volleyed home the first goal for Colombia. However, immediately after the break, Matías Oliveira was on hand to head in from a corner and tie the game.

Soon after, Mateus Uribe gave the home team the lead again, but Camilo Vargas’s late red card proved decisive for the visitors.

Vargas gave up a penalty after he committed a last-ditch foul inside the penalty area, and Núñez scored from 12 yards out to earn a draw for Uruguay.

After a hard-fought match for their respective nations, Liverpool’s South American duo embraced each other and spoke briefly on the field after the final whistle.

Against Wednesday, Núñez’s Uruguay will take on Brazil, although he probably won’t face his club’s goalie.

Manager Tite again opted to start Ederson in goal for Brazil as they drew 1-1 with Venezuela in a World Cup qualifying match, leaving Alisson on the bench. The goalkeeper for Liverpool has 61 caps for his country but hasn’t played since the 2022 World Cup.
