Not easy, Bayern Munich all-in, determined to bring in Germany’s ‘raw diamond’ in front of Barcelona’s face

Bayern recently jumped into the race to sign attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen with Barca.

Bayern stands in Barca's way of signing Florian Wirtz

Barca has been monitoring the progress of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen) over the past time. The defending champion La Liga team recently included Wirtz on the shortlist of three potential transfer targets, along with Arthur Vermeeren (Royal Antwerp) and Alan Varela (Porto). It should be emphasized that Wirtz is an indispensable link in coach Xabi Alonso’s optimal squad at Leverkusen.

Although he has a knack for running on the left wing or playing as an attacking midfielder, Wirtz can play well in many different positions because of his versatility and flexibility, from central midfielder to wing striker. At Leverkusen, Wirtz was often arranged by coach Alonso to play as a “number 10” in a 4-2-3-1 formation, right behind the central striker. The skill set that this 20-year-old attacking midfielder possesses is truly a strong attraction to the “big guys” in Europe, especially Barca.

Statistics also show that Wirtz started the 2023/24 season with explosive form, scoring 7 goals (3 goals, 4 assists) after 10 appearances for Leverkusen. In total, the 20-year-old midfielder has scored 26 goals and contributed 34 assists after 113 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen from 2020 to present. Barca wants the German оffensive midfielder for that reason too. Barca’s hopes may collapse if Bayern announced their desire to sign Wirtz. Bayern hopes to develop a strong attacking pair with Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. This pair opened Germany’s 3-1 win over the US. Both Wirtz and Musiala, 20, will be essential to the Gray Tigers for years to come.

Bayern will likely offer 100 million euros to buy Wirtz from Leverkusen, who want to keep him.
