Anthony Davis and Giannis Antetokounmpo go at it in the first half of the Lakers’ preseason loss to the Bucks

The second-to-last preseason game for the Los Angeles Lakers was on Sunday night at Crypto.com Arena against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks’ new star pair, played their first game together. The Lakers, on the other hand, were missing some key players, like LeBron James and Austin Reaves. Because this is how these practice games usually go, most of the regulars only played for half or three-quarters of the game. Young players finished it off, and the Bucks won 108–97.

Getting the game started with a 3-pointer, Taurean Prince kept making the case for being a full-time starter. Early on, the Lakers’ defense looked good, which let them get out of their zone and make some easy baskets, giving them a 14-6 lead.

To get his team back in the game, Antetokounmpo started to play worse, but Anthony Davis answered with a three-point play to keep the exciting start going. In the first quarter, the refs didn’t make many calls, which let both teams play rough.

The Bucks’ bench played well to get them back on track at the end of the first quarter, but the Lakers still led 29–28 going into the second.

Max Christie and Davis both made three-pointers to start the second quarter, giving L.A. more power from deep. This forced a quick Bucks timeout. Lillard got going after the timeout with a 3-pointer and then a couple of smart layups that gave his team a 56-53 lead at halftime.

At the half, Davis and Antetokounmpo, two big guys, were tied for the lead with 16 points each. The other stars didn’t play in the second half, and neither did Taurean Prince, D’Angelo Russell, or Rui Hachimura for L.A. Davis also had seven boards, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Lillard played into the third quarter, though, and kept making easy baskets to help Milwaukee’s lead grow to 10 points over the Laker backups.

After getting over a small ankle ιnjury, Cam Reddish played in a few games for the first time in a few games. He looked good in the third quarter, scoring eight points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer that cut L.A.’s lead to 86-79 going into the fourth.

The Lakers were still in the game thanks to a couple of highlight-reel dunks by Jaxson Hayes. However, the parent team was replaced by G Leaguers and two-way players when they lost.
