Jürgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, recently featured in a beer advertisement set in a renowned Merseyside pub. He’s been unveiled as the latest brand ambassador for ERDINGER Weißbier, the largest privately-owned wheat beer brewery in Germany.
The partnership was formally announced during the 80th birthday celebration of the brewery’s owner, Werner Brombach. Klopp conveyed his birthday wishes through a live video stream from his home in Merseyside.
A photograph was also shared of Klopp enjoying a glass of ERDINGER Weißbier, a brand that has previously partnered with Franz Beckenbauer and FC Bayern Munich. This moment was captured at the Dovedale Towers, a well-known and iconic pub on Penny Lane in Liverpool.
Locally referred to as ‘The Dovey,’ the establishment was originally known as Groves House and served various purposes, including acting as an orphanage before earning the nickname ‘Barneys’ during World War Two. It played host to dances and gatherings for locals and visiting troops during this time.
John Lennon and Paul McCartney played the venue several times with The Quarrymen in 1957, and Queen singer Freddie Mercury, then known as Farrokh Bulsara, resided in one of the upstairs rooms in the late 1960s.
Speaking about the partnership, Klopp said: “When we first got to know each other, I quickly realized that ERDINGER’s owner, Werner Brombach, was an inspirational guy. We had an understanding in promoting the importance of hard work, encouraging talent, and pursuing our objectives while recognizing the significance of a balanced lifestyle and enjoying our surroundings.”
“Our mindsets are positive and very similar, and I think we’re going to have a lot of fun working together here in the UK.”
Mike Girling from the Dovedale Towers said, “ERDINGER approached us to use The Dovey for the adverts as it’s such an iconic and interesting pub, truly representative of a classic Scouse local. We’ve been used for filming before, with Mo Salah and Brian Blessed, among others, shooting high-profile adverts here in the last few years.”
“Jürgen was exactly as you’d expect, incredibly friendly with no airs and graces, he treated everyone with respect and was very funny. Everyone, cast and crew alike, loved him, and he loved The Dovey.”
