Ronaldo set a huge record on the Portugal national team’s latest match
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to help Portugal maintain a winning record in EURO 2024 qualifying.
Portugal showed overwhelming strength under new coach Roberto Martinez.
In Group J of the EURO 2024 qualifying round, Portugal won all 6 matches with a maximum of 18 points before facing Slovakia. They have not even conceded a goal once.
With home field advantage and superior force, Portugal soon opened the score thanks to Goncalo Ramos in the 18th minute.
In the 29th minute, Ronaldo successfully scored a penalty to increase the score to 2-0. According to statistics, this is CR7’s 100th goal since the beginning of 2020.
He has now scored at least 100 goals in three different decades.
In the 69th minute, the away team pulled one goal back thanks to David Hancko. However, Ronaldo once again spoke up when he completed a double in the match to help Portugal regain a 2-goal lead.
Although Slovakia rallied and took back one more goal in the 80th minute, Portugal still stood firm and won the final 3-2.
Ronaldo personally scored 7 goals in 6 matches for Portugal in 2023. Previously, he only had 3 goals in 12 matches in 2022. Notably, 73 of Ronaldo’s 125 goals at the national team level came when he turned 30.
According to statistics from Fabrizio Romano, the 73 goals mentioned above are enough for Ronaldo to set a record for scoring more goals than any other player when compared to each age group at the national team level. In total, Ronaldo scored 857 goals in his entire career.
The victory over Slovakia also helped Portugal officially win a ticket to EURO 2024.
