Jarred Vanderbilt and the Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement on a four-year, $48 million contract deal, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
The Lakers have not yet made their long-term agreement with their defensive specialist public.
Multiple media outlets were informed by Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Erika Ruiz that the deal is completely guaranteed and includes a player option in the fourth year. Vanderbilt was acquired by the Lakers from Utah in February, and during their remarkable run to the Western Conference finals in the late season, he rapidly established himself as a vital rotation member.
Vanderbilt, who was regularly forced to guard the opponent’s top scorer, averaged 7.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in the regular season despite not being a significant offensive contributor. In the regular season, Vanderbilt started twenty-four games, and in the postseason, they started fifteen.
Vanderbilt started his NBA career in Denver after being selected by Orlando in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft.
Before being acquired by the Jazz last summer, he spent parts of three seasons playing for Minnesota, totaling 140 games.
The Lakers significantly upgraded their squad at the trade deadline, going 18-8 and then winning two rounds of the playoffs.
During the summer, general manager Rob Pelinka has been refining or solidifying the core group of the club that featured LeBron James and Anthony Davis the previous season.
Contract extensions with Vanderbilt, Davis, D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura have been agreed upon by Los Angeles.
Jaxson Hayes, Taurean Prince, Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, and Christian Wood have also been added by the Purple and Gold.
