Jayson Tatum Expresses Enthusiasm for Celtics’ Jrue Holiday Trade
Boston Celtics’ forward, Jayson Tatum, seems to be thrilled about the Celtics’ recent blockbuster trade for the versatile guard, Jrue Holiday. While players usually don’t have a direct say in front-office decisions, Tatum’s positive response to this significant trade suggests his excitement.
In a statement to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Tatum shared his sentiments about acquiring Jrue Holiday, emphasizing his respect for Holiday and their shared experience winning a gold medal together two summers ago. Tatum lauded Holiday as an exceptional player and teammate.
“I’m extremely happy to have [Jrue],” Jayson Tatum said. “Jrue’s one of the most well-respected guys in this league. He’s a champion. We won a gold medal together two summers ago. So, I know him pretty well and know he is a hell of a player, a hell of a teammate.”
Prior to this trade, the Celtics lacked a championship-winning player on their roster. With the addition of Holiday, a 2021 NBA champion, Boston now has a player who understands what it takes to succeed in the playoffs.
At 33 years old, Holiday brings a valuable skill set to the Celtics. He can assume the role of the primary ball-handler and provides leadership on the defensive end. While he can contribute as a scorer, his ability to facilitate plays will ensure that players like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kristaps Porzingis can operate effectively without overcrowding the offense.
It’s worth noting that Boston’s bench depth took a hit in acquiring Holiday, especially with the departure of Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams III. The team’s elite starting lineup will need to compensate for this, but there may also be potential moves by President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens before the trade deadline.
Regardless, when the 2023-24 NBA season tips off on October 25, the Celtics will feature a formidable starting five that promises an exciting season ahead for fans.
