In the coming months, Manchester City will prioritize contract extension negotiations with Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker had a sensational debut season in Manchester after transferring from Borussia Dortmund the previous summer.
In the 2022/23 season, Haaland set a remarkable record by scoring 36 Premier League goals, securing the Premier League Golden Boot and contributing to City’s historic treble, which included their first-ever Champions League title.
Despite his contract with City running until 2027, there have been rumors of two potential break clauses. The first of these clauses could be activated at the end of the current season, enabling Haaland to depart for a fee estimated between £150-170 million, should he seek a new challenge elsewhere.
Real Madrid has maintained a long-standing interest in Haaland, having previously attempted to sign him from Borussia Dortmund. However, their prospects of securing a deal with him in 2024 appear slim.
According to reports from the Daily Telegraph, Manchester City is conscious of the possibility that Real Madrid might turn to Haaland if they are unable to secure the signing of Kylian Mbappe. To safeguard their position, City is looking to extend Haaland’s contract until 2029.
